Tom has over 20 years of experience, ranging from collaborating and designing unique indoor zip-line structures to specialty million-pound press foundations. Tom continues to provide design and engineering direction for a diverse range of projects.
His involvement in the industry began as a laborer laying masonry block during High School. In 1999, he was hired as an Estimator with the D.J. Porter Company, Inc. where he realized his love for construction. During that time, he simultaneously attended Youngstown State University working towards his engineering degree. In 2005, Tom joined forces with C. Tucker Cope & Associates where he specialized in municipal & EPA compliant storm & waste water/pollution prevention design solutions for a wide range of site specific projects. This served as the foundation upon which Tom would continue to expand his education and expertise. In 2014, Engineering Direct, LLC was established after a partnership was formed with fellow engineer, C. Tucker Cope.
Tom’s extensive education includes a Master’s in Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Prior, he obtained his undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University—a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil & Construction Engineering Technology. Tom also carries two certificates from Cincinnati State in Land Surveying and Advanced Surveying.
Tom is an active member in his community and was awarded Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District Cooperator of the Year in 2016. He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, Construction Management Association of America, past Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District Elected Board of Supervisors term: 2018-2023, and Professional Engineer for the States of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, New York, Texas, Arkansas, Maryland, and Maine.
With over 25 years in the construction industry, C. Tucker Cope has developed a reputation as an outstanding Engineer, employer, business owner, and leader. One of Tucker’s many strengths is helping develop a business owner’s idea into a concept, then taking it from inception to completion.
Tucker grew up in the construction industry and knew from a young age he wanted to be an Engineer. His family was involved in the redi-mix concrete industry when, in his younger years, he could often be found playing in the sand with toy dump trucks or riding in the company mixer trucks. During his teenage years, his family started a construction company through which they identified a growing market for metal buildings that was not being utilized. After Tucker attained both a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Civil Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in 1997, he was employed in the metal building manufacturing industry as a Design Engineer. After leaving the metal building manufacturing industry, Tucker got involved in the family construction company. Since the early 2000’s, Tucker and his team have grown C. Tucker Cope & Associates into one of the premier design-build companies in the tri-state area. In 2014, along with a fellow engineer of C. Tucker Cope & Assoc., a partnership was formed that was the beginning of engineering company Engineering Direct. Engineering Direct, LLC handles the engineering design aspect for C. Tucker Cope & Associates, as well as operating independently as its own business entity.
Tucker holds a professional license in 6 states. He is currently a board member of the Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association (MBCEA) and is also active with the local Ruritans Club where he helps with their tractor pull events.
In Tucker’s free time he enjoys spending time with his wife Ashley and working around their 50+ acre property where they also have many family pets.
